‘Avatar’ Sequels Confirmed — by Trace De La Torre

Los Angeles — Sam Worthington & Zoe Saldana will return to the joys & perils of Pandora in the next three sequels of “Avatar”.

They will reprise their roles as Jake & Neytiri — along Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine — and Stephen Lang, reprising his role as Colonel Miles Quaritch despite his annihilation in the first installment.

James Cameron returns to Direct & Produce — (with his own ‘Lightstorm Entertainment’ in partnership with 20th Century Fox) — along with his producing partner — Jon Landau.

Scribes Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (“Rise of the Planets of the Apes”), and Shane Salerno (“Savages,” “Salinger”) are also set to collaborate with him on the screenplays for “Avatar 2,” “Avatar 3″ and “Avatar 4.”

Like Peter Jackson — Cameron intends to film the Avatar sequels in HFR — as recently seen in Jackson’s film — The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

A deal made with the New Zealand government includes at least one world première would be held in Wellington and that at least $500 million NZD (approximately $410 million USD at December 2013 exchange rates) would be spent on production activity in New Zealand, including live-action filming and visuals effects by Peter Jackson’s W E T A Workshop.

Production is scheduled for October 2014 with the 1st sequel to street in December 2016 — the 2nd sequel to street in December 2017 — and the 3rd sequel streeting in 2018.

“Avatar 2″ hits theaters December 2016.

ALL sequels will be filmed in New Zealand. –
